First launch takes a minute
On first start the app unpacks its bundled dictionary database. On a phone this takes roughly a minute and shows a progress screen. The app is not stuck; let it finish. It happens once.
Installing more dictionaries
- Open Settings → Dictionaries → Import dictionaries.
- Paste a link to a dictionary file and tap Download and install.
- The new dictionary appears in the dictionary list and in search results straight away.
Free dictionaries we publish are listed on the Dictionaries page. The app also reads the StarDict format, so files from other free dictionary projects work too. If you want to build your own, the pack format is fully documented and a reference converter is provided.
Removing a dictionary
Settings → Dictionaries → Import dictionaries, then the delete icon next to the entry. Its articles are removed from the app immediately.
Meaning-based search
Optional and off by default. Turning it on downloads a search model that then runs entirely on your device. It is a sizeable download, so do it on Wi-Fi; the app keeps working normally while it downloads, and tells you when it is ready. Dictionaries you install can carry an optional vector pack, which is what lets that dictionary participate in meaning-based search.
Accounts
There are none. Nothing to register, nothing to log into, nothing to delete.
