Privacy Policy
Applies to the Slovary app published on the App Store and to this website. Last updated: 30 October 2026.
The short version
The app collects no personal data. It has no user accounts, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking of any kind. Dictionary lookups happen on your device and are never transmitted.
What the app does on your device
- Searches and articles you open stay on the device. They are not sent to us or to anyone else.
- Search history and saved words are stored locally so you can return to them. You can clear them in the app at any time.
- Settings (theme, text size, languages) are stored locally.
Voice input
You can dictate a search word with the microphone button in the search field. It is entirely optional, and the app asks for microphone and speech recognition permission only the first time you tap that button, never at launch.
- Recording lasts only while you speak: it stops when you pause or confirm the word. The app does not save the audio.
- Recognition uses Apple's speech recognition. Where your device supports it for the chosen language, it runs on the device and the audio does not leave your phone. Otherwise iOS sends the audio to Apple's servers to turn it into text; Apple handles that under its own privacy policy, and we receive nothing.
- The recognized word goes straight into the search field and is searched on your device like a typed word. It is never sent to us or to anyone else.
You can turn either permission off at any time in the iOS Settings app (Settings → Slovary); typing searches keep working as before.
When the app uses the network
The app works fully offline. It contacts the network only when you ask it to, and only for these purposes:
- Downloading a dictionary you chose to install. The request goes to the address you supplied — this site, or any other host you point it at. The file is fetched; nothing about you is sent along with the request beyond what any file download involves.
- Downloading the optional on-device search model. Only if you switch meaning-based search on. The model then runs on your phone; your queries are never uploaded.
There is no server-side search, no user profile and no identifier assigned to you or your device.
What we do not do
- No advertising and no ad networks.
- No analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
- No tracking across other apps or websites; the app shows no App Tracking Transparency prompt because it has nothing to track.
- No selling or sharing of data — there is none to sell.
Permissions
The app requests no access to location, contacts, camera, photos, or notifications. The only permissions it may ask for are the microphone and speech recognition, and only when you use voice input (see above).
This website
Serving these pages and dictionary files produces ordinary web-server logs (IP address, requested file, timestamp), kept briefly for security and reliability and not used to build any profile.
Children
Slovary is a general-audience reference tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children included.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version appears on this page with a new date.
