Dictionaries
Free to use, free to redistribute — each with its licence stated.
Reading this on the device? Tap Open in app and the app takes it from there — it shows what the file holds and asks before installing anything. Anywhere else: download the file, or copy its link and paste it into the app under Settings → Dictionaries → Import dictionaries.
The format can also carry a whole collection in one file — several dictionaries and their vectors from a single link. The first entry below is one; building your own is one command.
The app reads the list inside this file before fetching it, asks which dictionaries you want, and downloads only those — 424 MB is what the collection weighs, not what one dictionary costs. GCIDE travels with its meaning-based search, so taking it takes both.
Also ships inside the app — you only need this file to install it elsewhere. Optional vector file (40 MB) adds meaning-based search to it.
Three entries — for trying the import flow without a long download.
Meaning-based search
A dictionary can carry an optional vector file, which is what lets it answer descriptive queries — “a frame with beads for counting” finds abacus. Install it in the app from the same screen, on the dictionary it belongs to.
Vectors only work when the passages and your query were encoded by the same model, so a file built for one dictionary is refused by another — the app says so instead of returning quiet nonsense. Building your own takes one command: see make_vectors.py in the specification.

Other free dictionaries
The app reads the StarDict format, so dictionaries published by other free projects work as well. Two well-known sources:
- GCIDE — the English dictionary above, in its original source form.
- FreeDict — over 100 translating dictionary pairs across some 45 languages, mostly GPL.
These are independent projects; we are not affiliated with them and do not redistribute their files. What you install from elsewhere is your own choice and your own responsibility.
